Encoding and Analysing Popular Music
The EArPiCe project is centered on studying, cataloging, and analyzing popular music repertoires in Italy, Albania, and Montenegro. This project aims to bridge cross-border cultural gaps by understanding how popular music from different ethnic and social groups, dating from the Baroque period to the present, can create new cultural exchanges. The key goal is to explore possible cultural similarities that may inspire future music production across these regions.
Key Objectives:
- Cultural Heritage Exploitation: By focusing on music as a cultural heritage, the project aims to improve cooperation between key cultural actors in the region.
- Popular Music Analysis: Analyze the popular music traditions, exploring similarities and cultural crossovers between regions to produce new compositions.
- Neuroscientific Studies: A neuroscience component is added to understand the cognitive and emotional effects of music on individuals from these regions. This will include measuring neurobiological responses when individuals listen to music.
Expected Outcomes:
- Music Network Creation: Create a shared network of musical works connecting the regions, bringing together popular and classical music traditions.
- Cross-border Ensembles: Formation of interregional ensembles that will create and perform both old and new musical works.
- New Music Productions: Organizing concerts, performances, and festivals to showcase these new musical compositions.
- Neuroscientific Findings: Investigate how different cultures respond to popular music and how these findings can influence music production and education.
